Remembering Pearl Harbor – Saturday, December 7th, 2013

December 7, 2013 @ 9:15 am - 1:00 pm

Sunday morning, 7:55 a.m. Hawaiian time, December 7th, 1941. Who does not remember this day in history? Pearl Harbor Day, a day of remembrance…..

A day when a powerful enemy launched a devastating assault our Pacific Fleet, destroying five of eight battleships, three destroyers, and seven other ships that were sunk or severely damaged, and more than two hundred aircraft. A total of 2,400 Americans were killed and 1,200 were wounded, not to mention those missing in action. My Uncle, an enlisted Naval Seaman, was among one of those.

My father shipped out of Hawaii the day before Pearl Harbor, sailing to Treasure Island, California. Before he his ship landed, the United States had declared war on Japan. In his speech given the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. So help us God!”

What will you do to commemorate this day? A Circle Of Warriors will be represented at a commemoration ceremony at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza located in the Arizona State Capitol complex in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, December 7th, 2013, standing with Veterans who remember what it means to fight for freedom.
